Cobb Pizza Oven, Lightweight And Portable

When it comes to cooking pizza at home there are so many possibilities. As well as the kitchen grill you can also use purpose made electric pizza ovens. I’d like to introduce you to a viable and novel alternative. The Cobb Grill.

For those who are not familiar with the Cobb it is a compact multifunction cooker that makes an excellent pizza oven, but does much more as well. The fuel of choice for the Cobb is the humble charcoal briquette. 6 – 9 briquettes is sufficient for up to 3 hours cooking time. Its compact size and design makes it an unobtrusive but very welcome addition to any kitchen. It is also an essential on any camping or boating trip.

The versatility of the Cobb grill surprises everyone. As well as being an excellent pizza oven it will also make bread. Imagine making fresh bread on a camping or boating holiday! Even this is only scratching the surface of what the Cobb grill can do. Fancy a barbeque? Use the Cobb grill. It’s virtually smoke free because juices from the cooking food are directed to the sides of the cooking surface and drop into the built in ‘moat’. This is also what happens when cooking a full roast dinner. The juices run away and are collected for later use as the basis of delicious sauces and gravies.

Back to the Cobb’s capabilities as a pizza oven. Have you noticed how normal pizza ovens dry the pizza out? You can avoid this happening with the Cobb grill. The moat, when partially filled with water supplies moisture to the cooking heat, and with a little practice you can get a properly cooked, but not dry pizza. The moat is also very helpful when roasting meat or chicken. The moat provides a cooking environment similar to commercial ovens. The added steam keeps the meat moist and helps prevent shrinkage.

I think it’s likely that you may like to take a look at my collection of videos that show the Cobb in action. You will also find recipes here that you can make for yourself. The videos show the Cobb in some pretty extreme places, which includes the kitchen.
